World stroke day

29 October is also celebrated as World Stroke Day. The day was established in 2006 by the World Stroke Organization (WSO) to raise awareness about stroke and promote its prevention and treatment.

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. This occurs when the blood supply to any part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing the brain tissue from receiving oxygen and nutrients. It can damage or destroy brain cells, causing a variety of neurological problems, such as paralysis, speech impairment, and cognitive difficulties.

World Stroke Day is an opportunity to learn more about stroke, its risk factors and how to prevent it. It is also a day to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of stroke and the importance of seeking immediate medical help if you or someone you know experiences a stroke.
